LHH is seeking an experienced Tool Designer Engineer in Wood Dale, IL, to lead the design and development of manufacturing tooling solutions from concept through production release. This is a direct hire role, responsible for creating innovative tool designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, developing detailed CAD models, and engineering drawings, and ensuring tooling meets operational, safety, ergonomic, and manufacturing requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, and capable of managing multiple projects while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned tooling design projects from initial request through final release.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and production teams to define design requirements and tooling solutions.
- Design and develop 3D CAD models for fixtures, cutting tools, work holding, gauges, and manufacturing aids.
- Create accurate engineering drawings, bills of materials, and tooling layouts in compliance with company and industry standards.
- Support fabrication, build, and implementation efforts by working closely with tool room personnel and vendors.
- Review and improve tooling designs to enhance quality, efficiency, and reliability.
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure design accuracy, quality, and standards compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Proven experience creating fabrication and production-use sketches.
- Strong understanding of machining and/or assembly manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T, and drafting standards.
- Ability to independently develop tooling solutions from concept through release.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
