Senior Cost Accountant
San Marcos, TX | Fully Onsite
A rapidly growing manufacturing company in the San Marcos area is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This role will partner closely with the Controller and play a key role in strengthening inventory, cost accounting, and operational finance processes within a complex manufacturing environment.
This is a highly visible position for someone who enjoys digging into the details while also partnering cross-functionally with operations and leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing cost accounting experience, systems proficiency, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and analyze manufacturing cost accounting activities including:
- Inventory accounting
- Standard costing
- Cost variance analysis
- BOM review and maintenance
- Inventory reserves and reconciliations
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to inventory and cost accounting
- Partner closely with operations, supply chain, and production teams to improve reporting and cost visibility
- Analyze manufacturing performance, margins, and operational trends
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and operational financial analysis
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, controls enhancement, and reporting automation
- Support ERP and systems-related initiatives within a highly integrated SAP environment
- Participate in ad hoc financial analysis and strategic projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on manufacturing cost accounting
- CPA or CPA track
- Deep understanding of:
- Inventory accounting
- Standard costing
- Manufacturing variances
- Operational finance
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment is required
- SAP experience is required and considered highly important for the role
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with operations and leadership teams
- Public accounting background is preferred
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to move beyond transactional accounting into operational and financial analysis
