Cost Accounting Manager – Manufacturing
Overview
This role is responsible for managing the full range of accounting activities within a manufacturing division, with a strong emphasis on cost accounting and project-based financial oversight. The position ensures compliance with GAAP, accurate financial reporting, and effective cost management. Key responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and cash flow monitoring. The role also supports month-end and year-end closings and provides detailed financial analysis to management.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general and cost accounting functions, including compiling cost data and maintaining expense records in MRP/ERP systems.
- Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).
- Maintain the general ledger, record journal entries, and ensure timely month-end close.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice coding, account setup, reconciliations, and collections.
- Verify invoice payments and ensure proper account allocations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, verify deposits, and forecast weekly cash requirements.
- Analyze and report profit margins, inventory, and WIP balances.
- Reconcile customer deposits and payroll journal entries.
- Support month-end and year-end closings.
- Generate weekly and monthly metrics reports for management.
- Recommend process improvements for reporting and analysis.
- Perform additional accounting and financial duties as needed.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting and financial principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems and accounting software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and ability to work cross-functionally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
