What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patent Specialist position at LHH?
A leading global law firm is seeking a Patent Specialist to join its Orange County office. This role will prepare and file new patent applications with the USPTO, WIPO, and foreign associates, manage prosecution filings, and provide legal secretarial support to attorneys and Patent Agents. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of U.S. and/or foreign patent prosecution and exceptional organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file PTO communications, including new applications, Office Action responses, IDS, and assignments.
- Manage client extranets and maintain accurate correspondence and filings.
- Handle foreign prosecution tasks, including PCT filings and national stage entries.
- Communicate with foreign associates and track deadlines for global filings.
- Analyze issued U.S. patents for Patent Term Adjustment and compile worldwide portfolio data.
- Prepare letters, legal documents, and reports; manage calendars and billing processes.
- Provide backup support and assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Knowledge of intellectual property terminology and patent prosecution processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems.
- Effective communication skills with attorneys, clients, and vendors.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary of $70,000β$106,000 (commensurate with experience)

- This position will offer 1 day remote flexibility following a week of training.
