What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Consultant position at LHH?
Legal Consultant
LHH is partnering with a growing consulting organization that advises financial advisory firms and business owners through critical business transitions, succession planning initiatives, and strategic transactions. We are seeking a Legal Consultant who can blend legal expertise with strong client-facing advisory skills to help guide clients through complex business decisions.
This role is ideal for an attorney or legal professional looking to leverage their legal training in a consultative capacity rather than traditional legal practice. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate business structures, ownership transitions, succession planning, and acquisition opportunities.
What You'll Do
- Advise business owners and financial advisory firms on entity structures, ownership strategies, succession planning, and transaction-related matters
- Lead client engagements from inception through completion, serving as the primary point of contact throughout the consulting process
- Explain legal, financial, and business concepts in a practical and easy-to-understand manner
- Draft, review, and analyze a variety of agreements and business documents, including purchase agreements, operating agreements, governance documents, and transaction-related contracts
- Guide clients through merger, acquisition, and ownership transition discussions
- Identify risks, opportunities, and potential challenges while helping clients evaluate options and outcomes
- Manage multiple client projects simultaneously while ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to deadlines
- Partner with internal consulting teams to provide integrated solutions and exceptional client service
- Utilize technology platforms and internal systems to manage projects, track progress, and support operational excellence
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices impacting business owners and financial services organizations
- Recommend process improvements and contribute to the ongoing development of consulting methodologies
Ideal Background
- Juris Doctor (JD) required
- Active bar membership preferred
- Minimum of two years of legal, consulting, or related professional experience
- Strong preference for experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, business law, or commercial litigation
- Experience working with financial institutions, lenders, wealth management firms, financial advisory businesses, or financial services organizations is highly desirable
- Ability to build trust quickly and communicate effectively with business owners and executive stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a consultative mindset
- Comfortable managing complex information and translating it into practical recommendations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
The strongest candidates are approachable, relationship-driven professionals who can make sophisticated legal and business concepts feel accessible. Rather than relying on technical legal language, they can engage clients in meaningful conversations, understand their goals, and help them confidently navigate important business decisions.
This position is particularly attractive for attorneys who enjoy advising clients and solving business challenges but are seeking an alternative to traditional legal practice.
