Lead Hardware Engineer

Position Overview
The Lead Hardware Engineer is a key member of the Platform Engineering team, responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of automotive battery diagnostics, electrical system test equipment, chargers, and electric vehicle battery management platforms.
This role owns hardware architecture and development activities across new platform creation and existing product maintenance. The Lead Hardware Engineer provides technical leadership, mentors other engineers, and collaborates cross-functionally to deliver reliable, high-quality products that meet customer and business requirements.
Compensation
- Salary Range: $140,000 – $150,000 annually
- This salary range applies to this position and will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity
Additional Compensation
- Annual discretionary bonus based on company and/or individual performance
- Profit-sharing eligibility, subject to plan terms
Role Breakdown
- 70–80%: New development and platform leadership
- 20–30%: Maintenance, troubleshooting, and post-delivery support
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
- Lead electronics hardware design and development for high-quality, reliable products delivered on schedule
- Own technical leadership for new product and platform development initiatives
- Design and troubleshoot microcontroller-based and embedded mixed-signal systems at the component level
- Perform schematic capture, support PCB layout, and lead board bring-up and validation
- Participate in and lead hardware and platform design reviews
- Create and maintain technical documentation including specifications and design documents
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor and guide Hardware Engineers through daily technical support and coaching
- Lead Hardware Engineering Scrum activities, including sprint planning and retrospectives
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, production, and quality teams
- Work directly with customers and technical stakeholders to translate needs into design solutions
- Partner with Supply Chain and suppliers on component selection, qualification, and manufacturing
Process, Architecture & Continuous Improvement
- Develop architectures that support platform reuse, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Create work breakdown structures (WBS), estimate effort, and execute to plan
- Maintain and enforce hardware engineering standards and best practices
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across hardware engineering processes
- Resolve technical issues that arise post-delivery
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in electronics hardware design and development for embedded systems
- Strong experience with microcontrollers, mixed-signal electronics, and PCB-based designs
- Proven ability to lead hardware development efforts from concept through production
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing automotive, battery, charger, or electric vehicle-related products
- Experience leading Agile or Scrum-based hardware development teams
- Background in platform-based product development
