LHH is supporting a privately owned distribution organization in the Portland metro area that is hiring a Human Resources Manager to lead and evolve its people function. This is a hands-on, highly visible onsite role responsible for overseeing day-to-day HR operations, strengthening employee engagement, and partnering closely with leadership and frontline teams to drive continuous improvement across a multi-state workforce.
This role is primarily onsite in the greater Portland metro area, with one consistent remote day per week. Onsite presence is important given close partnership with warehouse and operational teams. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience, with a targeted base salary range of $120,000–$135,000, plus comprehensive benefits.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, performance management, payroll oversight, benefits administration, and compliance
- Serve as a strategic and practical partner to senior leaders and managers through regular check-ins focused on team health, engagement, and development needs
- Manage and develop one direct-report HR Generalist
- Drive employee engagement initiatives and continuously improve engagement and recognition programs
- Support and improve performance management processes, adoption, and utilization
- Provide hands-on coaching and guidance to managers on employee relations, performance, and leadership matters
- Oversee recruiting and onboarding processes and ensure HR systems are used effectively
- Partner closely with office management and warehouse leadership to support frontline teams
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes and improve HR efficiency
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 5 years of progressive HR experience, including manager-level responsibility
- Strong hands-on employee relations experience
- Proven experience coaching and supporting people managers
- Payroll experience or strong working knowledge of payroll processes
- Experience operating in a hands-on, operational environment
- Ability to drive change, improve processes, and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong communication, judgment, and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable working closely with both professional and frontline teams
