HR Generalist (Contract-to-Hire | Hybrid – Washington, DC)
LHH is partnering with a mission-driven organization in the Washington, DC area to identify an HR Generalist for a long-term, contract-to-hire opportunity. This position requires 5 days a week onsite and offers the chance to support a collaborative, community-focused team while strengthening core HR operations.
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Compensation: $27–$35/hour
Duration: Long-term contract with potential for permanent conversion
Position Overview
The HR Generalist plays a key role in executing day-to-day people operations while supporting initiatives that enhance the overall employee experience. This position partners closely with leadership to ensure efficient processes, regulatory compliance, and consistent employee support.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Partner with hiring managers to define staffing needs and develop job descriptions
- Coordinate candidate pipelines, scheduling, and hiring logistics
- Facilitate onboarding, including orientation and new hire documentation
- Support development and rollout of an internship program
Employee Support & Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries
- Promote a positive, solutions-oriented workplace culture
- Support employee relations matters in alignment with internal policies
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate employee records within HR systems
- Support compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations
- Assist with reporting, audits, and required workforce documentation
Benefits Administration & Vendor Coordination
- Provide guidance on benefits programs, including HSA, FSA, and 403(b)
- Liaise with external benefits providers and vendors as needed
Systems & Process Improvement
- Organize and enhance the SharePoint environment and internal resources
- Support initiatives to improve HR systems and self-service tools
Learning & Development
- Identify training opportunities and coordinate development initiatives
- Support employee growth, performance, and retention efforts
Strategic Support
- Contribute to process improvements and policy updates
- Provide insights on employee engagement and workforce trends
- Support leadership in strengthening employee experience initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in HR or people operations
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience with HRIS platforms (Paycom a plus)
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
