Employee Relations and Compliance Manager

Direct Hire

Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000 annually

Hybrid in San Francisco, CA (3 days onsite and 2 days remote)


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including sensitive workplace concerns
  • Conduct employee relations reviews and investigations, ensuring fair, timely, and well‑documented outcomes
  • Coach and advise managers on performance management, corrective actions, and conflict resolution
  • Support employees and managers with practical, solutions‑oriented guidance using a trauma‑informed and culturally responsive approach
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies
  • Manage leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PDL) and workers’ compensation processes
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and compliant documentation practices
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews
  • Serve as primary administrator for HRIS (UKG), ensuring data accuracy, reporting, and system integrity
  • Partner with Payroll and People & Culture teams to ensure accurate processing and reporting
  • Analyze and present people metrics to support decision‑making and organizational planning
  • Collaborate with leadership to support employee engagement, retention, and overall employee experience



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of HR experience with a focus on employee relations and compliance
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations matters
  • Experience managing leaves of absence and workers’ compensation
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; UKG preferred
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar) preferred
  • Experience in a nonprofit or behavioral health setting preferred
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred
