Employee Relations and Compliance Manager
Direct Hire
Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000 annually
Hybrid in San Francisco, CA (3 days onsite and 2 days remote)
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including sensitive workplace concerns
- Conduct employee relations reviews and investigations, ensuring fair, timely, and well‑documented outcomes
- Coach and advise managers on performance management, corrective actions, and conflict resolution
- Support employees and managers with practical, solutions‑oriented guidance using a trauma‑informed and culturally responsive approach
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies
- Manage leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PDL) and workers’ compensation processes
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and compliant documentation practices
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews
- Serve as primary administrator for HRIS (UKG), ensuring data accuracy, reporting, and system integrity
- Partner with Payroll and People & Culture teams to ensure accurate processing and reporting
- Analyze and present people metrics to support decision‑making and organizational planning
- Collaborate with leadership to support employee engagement, retention, and overall employee experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- 5 years of HR experience with a focus on employee relations and compliance
- Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations matters
- Experience managing leaves of absence and workers’ compensation
- Experience with HRIS platforms; UKG preferred
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar) preferred
- Experience in a nonprofit or behavioral health setting preferred
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred
