A privately held organization is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement while partnering closely with senior management.
What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting, and variance analysis
- Oversee general ledger activities and core accounting functions (AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets)
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and external reporting requirements
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulations
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- Set performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Participate in hiring and team growth as needed
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes
- Partner with internal stakeholders on ERP/system enhancements and finance-related projects
- Support business initiatives, integrations, or special projects as required
Business Partnership
- Collaborate with leadership across finance and operations to support decision‑making
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Provide financial insights and ad hoc analysis to support strategic goals
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience managing month‑end close, audits, and internal controls
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities
Preferred
- CPA or CMA
- Experience in a mid‑sized, privately held environment
- ERP system experience and a continuous improvement mindset
- Industry experience in manufacturing, distribution, construction, or services (flexible)
