What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver, Solid Waste position at Lee County Government?
Lee County is seeking dependable and safety-focused commercial drivers to join our Solid Waste team. In this role, you will help keep our community clean by safely collecting and transporting waste and recycling materials throughout the county.

What You Will Do
- Drive and operate commercial solid waste vehicles, including tractor-trailers, roll-off trucks, grapple trucks, and other related equipment
- Transport trash, yard waste, recyclables, and construction debris to landfills and recycling facilities
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and report or assist with light maintenance needs
- Complete daily logs and required paperwork using electronic devices
- Follow safety rules, traffic laws, and department procedures at all times
- Work independently and as part of a team to complete daily routes
- Assist during emergencies or special operations as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- One (1) year of experience driving tractor-trailers, hauling waste, or working in a related field
- Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position and comply with DOT Drug & Alcohol testing requirements
Licensing Requirements
- Preferred: Valid Class A CDL
- Also Considered: Class B CDL, with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire
- No manual transmission restrictions on CDL
Safety-Sensitive Position
- This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Saturday work may be required as needed
- Additional hours may be required during emergencies
