- This position requires skilled work in the operation of a passenger bus, trolley, tram, or passenger van.
- Responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle on an assigned or deviated route and schedule at various locations within the county.
- Loading and unloading passengers, who may include the elderly and/or disabled, and transporting them to various locations.
- Collecting fares.
- Performing basic vehicle maintenance. Completing necessary reports and paperwork.
- Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Transit Supervisors and the Operations Manager.
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.
- Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement, OR valid Class A or B CDL Permit with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement prior to offer.
- Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of hire date. (Training and testing provided by LeeTran staff.)
- Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card. This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation CFR-Part 40, 49 CFR Part 655.
- Must be able to exercise independent judgment in daily activities and be sensitive to passengers with various disabilities on a daily basis.
- Must be able to drive in all weather conditions and in darkness.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service to the public and fellow employees.
- One year of experience in the operation of a bus or heavy automotive equipment is preferred.
- LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays. Normal hours of operation are 4:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during seasonal service.
- Shifts and assignments: Day and evening shifts available. Shift schedules vary, and routes are selected by seniority at least semi-annually. Employees must be able to work any job assignment scheduled.
- Shift differential: Evening shifts offer additional compensation through shift differential.
- Overtime: Opportunities for voluntary overtime are available.
