What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Inclusion Counselor position at Lee County Government?
Lee County Parks & Recreation is looking for caring, patient, and positive Summer Camp Inclusion Counselor who enjoy helping all children fully participate in camp. In this hands-on role, you’ll support campers with diverse abilities, help implement Inclusion Plans, and work with staff to make camp welcoming, fun, and accessible for everyone.
What You Will Do:
- Support the Site Director and counselors in creating a positive, inclusive camp environment.
- Help implement camper Inclusion Plans and provide support during daily activities.
- Assist campers in sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips, and special events.
- Encourage participation and help children stay safe, engaged, and included.
- Help communicate camper needs or behavior concerns to the Site Director.
- Assist with basic camp tasks such as setup, cleanup, transitions, and supervision.
- Support special events and activities within Parks & Recreation, which may include:
- Setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, and tents
- Emptying trash bins, cleaning areas, and restocking restrooms
- Filling water coolers
- Working admissions gates
- Keeping score at events
- General cleanup of fields, dugouts, and parking lots
- Perform other duties to support camp and event operations.
What We’re Looking For
Education
High school diploma or GED (or similar experience)
Verifiable Experience
Your experience must be something we can confirm.
A supervisor, teacher, coach, volunteer leader, or family you worked for should be able to:
Confirm the work you did
Explain your role
Confirm how long you worked there
You need one year of experience working with youth, including children with diverse abilities.
This experience may include:
Summer camps or after-school programs
Working with children with disabilities
Classroom, preschool, or childcare support
Coaching or youth sports
Volunteering with community programs
Helping with adaptive or inclusive programs
Supporting children during events, outings, or special activities
If you have supported, taught, guided, or cared for children in any setting, including inclusive or adaptive programs, we want to hear about it.
Licensing
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
First Aid and CPR (must be completed before camp begins)

Training and Dates:
- Mandatory training: June 8–12, 2026
- Camp dates: June 15–July 31, 2026
- Must commit to the full summer, including training week.
Additional Information:
- This position does not include benefits.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather, bend/stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work hours may vary based on site needs.
- Staffing depends on enrollment; low enrollment may result in schedule changes, relocation, or layoff.
