Summer Camp Lead Counselor

Lee County Parks & Recreation is looking for positive, energetic Summer Camp Lead Counselor who enjoy leading activities, supporting staff, and helping create fun summer experiences for kids. In this hands-on role, you’ll help guide daily activities, support counselors, and step in to lead the camp site when the Site Director is away. You’ll work closely with your team to make each day safe, organized, and memorable for campers.

What You Will Do:

• Help plan, organize, and lead daily camp activities, including sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, biking, archery, fishing, field trips, and special events.

• Support counselors in leading small groups of children and keeping them safe, active, and engaged.

• Assist with daily tasks such as check-in, supervision, activity setup, and equipment organization.

• Step in when the Site Director is unavailable, which may include:

• Talking with parents and campers

• Confirming field trip schedules

• Helping assign staff roles and activity rotations

• Help maintain a positive camp environment and support team needs.

• Complete First Aid and CPR training before camp begins.

• Perform other duties as needed to support camp operations.

What We’re Looking For

Education

• High school diploma or GED (or similar experience)

Verifiable Experience
Your experience must be something we can confirm.

A supervisor, coach, teacher, volunteer leader, or family you worked for should be able to:

• Confirm you did the work

• Explain what you did

• Confirm how long you worked there

You need one year of experience working with kids.

This experience can come from many places, such as:

• Summer camps or after-school programs

• Classrooms, preschools, daycares, or church childcare

• Coaching youth sports

• Leading or helping with scout groups or youth clubs

• Volunteering at schools, libraries, or community events

• Babysitting, nannying, or being a mother’s helper

• Teaching or assisting with arts, music, dance, STEM, or outdoor programs

• Supporting festivals, field days, or special events

• Mentoring kids or teens in school or community programs

If you have supported, led, taught, or cared for children in any setting, we want to hear about it.

Licensing

• Valid driver’s license required

• First Aid and CPR (must be completed before camp begins)

Training and Dates: 

• Mandatory training: June 8–12, 2026

• Camp dates: June 15–July 31, 2026

• Must commit to the full summer, including training week.

Additional Information:

• This position does not include benefits.

• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather, bend/stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.

• Work hours may vary based on site needs.

• Staffing depends on enrollment; low enrollment may result in schedule changes, relocation, or layoff.
