Summer Camp Counselor

Lee County Parks & Recreation is looking for energetic, positive Camp Counselors who love working with kids and creating fun summer experiences. In this hands-on role, you’ll help plan and lead daily activities, support campers as they learn and grow, and make every day at camp enjoyable and memorable. You’ll work closely with your Site Director, Lead Counselor, and fellow teammates while making a real difference in the lives of children.

What You Will Do:

• Help plan, organize, and lead daily activities for campers, including sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, biking, archery, fishing, field trips, and special events.
• Lead small groups of children and help keep them safe, active, and engaged throughout the day.
• Assist the Site Director and Lead Counselor with setting up activities, guiding transitions, and maintaining a positive camp environment.
• Help with daily tasks such as check-in, supervision, cleanup, and equipment organization.
• Support special camp events and theme days.
• Complete First Aid and CPR training before camp begins.
• Perform other duties as needed to support camp operations.

What We’re Looking For

Education

• High school diploma or GED (or similar experience)

Verifiable Experience

This means your experience must be something we can confirm.

A supervisor, coach, teacher, volunteer leader, or family you worked for should be able to:

• Confirm you did the work

• Explain what you did

• Confirm how long you worked there

You need two summers (four months) of experience working with kids.

This experience can come from many places, such as:

• Working at a summer camp or after-school program

• Helping in a classroom, preschool, daycare, or church nursery

• Coaching youth sports (soccer, basketball, cheer, etc.)

• Leading or assisting with scout groups or youth clubs

• Volunteering at schools, libraries, or community events

• Babysitting, nannying, or being a mother’s helper

• Teaching or helping with arts, music, dance, STEM, or outdoor activities

• Assisting with family events, festivals, field days, or holiday programs

• Mentoring kids or teens through school or community programs

If you have supported, led, taught, or cared for children in any setting, we want to hear about it.

Licensing

• Valid driver’s license preferred

• First Aid and CPR (must be completed before camp begins)

Training and Dates:

• Mandatory training: June 8–12, 2026

• Camp dates: June 15–July 31, 2026

• Must commit to the full summer, including training week.

• This position does not include benefits.

• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather, bend/stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.

• Work hours may vary based on site needs.

• Camp staffing depends on enrollment; low enrollment may result in schedule changes, relocation, or layoff.
