What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver, Paratransit position at Lee County Government?
LeeTran is looking for friendly and responsible bus drivers. You will help people get where they need to go safely. This is a year-round job anticipating 40 hours per week with opportunities for advancement into a full-time position.
This job is great for people who like working with the public, enjoy helping others, and can follow rules while staying safe on the road.
What You Will Do
Drive passengers safely to pick up and drop off locations, escorting them to and from the vehicle
Help passengers with questions and collect fares
Make sure the bus is comfortable (heat, air, lighting)
Follow ADA rules and help passengers with disabilities, including securing wheelchairs
Check your bus and equipment for safety and general maintenance needs
Complete daily reports and paperwork
Use bus technology like tablets and GPS
Do other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED (or similar experience)
- A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass a Florida DOT Medical Exam and keep a current medical card
- Pass fingerprint and background checks
Preferred Skills:
- One year of experience driving a bus or large vehicle
- Knowledge of Lee County roads with the ability to follow navigation systems
- Ability to drive in all weather and at night
- Good customer service and communication skills
Safety-Sensitive Position:
- Transit Bus Drivers must be able to pass a Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination and maintain a current medical card. This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and 655.
Fingerprint Screening Requirement:
- This position requires a fingerprint-based background check, as required by law. The screening reviews criminal history and other legally permitted information. Applicants who do not meet the screening requirements will not be eligible for employment. Learn more: https://info.flclearinghouse.com
Schedule & Training
- LeeTran runs 7 days a week, including some holidays (4:00 AM – 11:00 PM)
- Day and evening shifts available
- Shifts assigned by seniority
- Evening shifts pay extra with shift differential
- Training provided on the job
