The ideal candidate has hands-on experience leading machining teams and excels at training employees, enforcing company safety policies, and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity. This position requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to motivate a skilled workforce to meet both internal and external customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the shop team in a positive, team-driven, results oriented manner.
  • Plan and review shop work with the Project Manager, Estimators, Safety, Materials Buyer, and other supportive departments including but not limited to quality control procedures, safety and security practices, shop personnel job requirements, job layout, staging areas, equipment, and manpower.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maintain project schedule and forecast workload requirements for upcoming projects.
  • Provide technical assistance for Estimators, Materials Buyer, and shop crews.
  • Establish and maintain shop policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Mentor and assist with career development of team members. Providing coaching, counseling, recognition, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions based on employee situations.
  • Develop and implement training programs to maintain a highly skilled workforce.
  • Chair monthly department Foreman meetings to review department needs, job analysis, safety trainings, etc.
  • Review and approve shop employee time tickets. In addition, review payroll report and identify discrepancies daily to mitigate payroll errors.
  • Manage the organization of stock materials and ensure shop equipment is running efficiently. Ensure the shop is clean and always organized.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls and dispatch proper personnel.
  • Responsible for reiterating safety protocols and regulations to prevent potential hazards and operational delays.
  • Help safety professionals to facilitate training and programs for the employees and inform them of any communications related to their safety and wellbeing.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management is beneficial but not required.
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience in similar facility construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures required.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and demonstrated ability to control and supervise several crews.
  • Prior experience with managing Commercial and/or Industrial projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, including computers, keyboards, phones, and printers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move around active workshop and customer sites, sometimes on uneven terrain if required to.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, high‑visibility vest, gloves, and appropriate footwear when working on shop floor or when visiting customer site.
