What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Ledgent?
We're working with a company in the Galleria area seeking an Accountant I for a 6-month contract with potential for full-time hire.
Compensation: $31-33/hour
Schedule: Hybrid - up to 5 work-from-home days per month
Start Date: ASAP - actively interviewing
- Responsible for the monthly maintenance of the fixed asset system, including recording additions, disposals, depreciation, and asset location changes
- Prepare and maintain journal entries and general ledger accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation
- Analyze financial data and investigate discrepancies
- Assist with audits by preparing requested documentation and schedules
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Assist with sales tax filings and other regulatory reporting requirements
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting-related issues
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
- 1-3 years of experience preferred (open to candidates with more experience)
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
- Working knowledge of GAAP reporting
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
- Experience with financial accounting software and ability to learn new systems quickly
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
