Shipyard Recruiter – LEAD Marine
Location: Norfolk, VA (In-Office)
Compensation: Base Salary uncapped commission benefits
Position Overview
LEAD Marine is seeking a driven, high-performance Shipyard Recruiter to support large-scale hiring for skilled trades across shipbuilding and marine industrial environments. This role is critical to ensuring our clients’ projects remain fully staffed, on schedule, and compliant.
You will operate in a fast-paced, production-driven recruiting environment, partnering with operations, account managers, and clients to deliver top-tier talent across some of the nation’s most active shipyards.
This is an opportunity to build a long-term recruiting desk, develop deep industry expertise, and directly impact revenue and client success.
What You’ll Do
- Execute full-cycle recruiting for high-volume skilled trades and technical roles
- Recruit for key shipyard positions including:
- Welders (FCAW/SMAW)
- Shipfitters & Structural Fitters
- Pipefitters
- Marine Electricians
- Riggers
- Mechanics & Outside Machinists
- Planners, QA, and Engineers
- Build and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified maritime talent
- Source candidates through:
- Job boards and ATS platforms
- Social media and digital outreach
- Trade schools and workforce programs
- Military transition and veteran networks
- Partner with operations and account teams to align on:
- Project timelines
- Workforce ramp-ups
- Skill requirements and compliance standards
- Conduct candidate screening, interviewing, and qualification
- Verify certifications and compliance requirements:
- TWIC, OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, etc.
- Manage onboarding processes including:
- Background checks
- Drug screens
- Orientation and start coordination
- Maintain accurate ATS records and ensure compliance with EEO and federal guidelines
- Represent LEAD Marine at:
- Job fairs
- Hiring events
- Community and workforce outreach initiatives
- Stay informed on labor market trends and shipyard demand to proactively support hiring strategies
What We’re Looking For
- 2 years of recruiting experience (staffing or high-volume preferred)
- Experience in marine, shipyard, construction, or industrial recruiting strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of shipyard trades and required skill sets highly desireable
- Ability to manage multiple requisitions and pipelines simultaneously
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with ATS systems and sourcing tools
- Understanding of hiring compliance (EEO, federal regulations)
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting NAVSEA, MARAD, DoD, or commercial shipyard programs
- Familiarity with badging and clearance processes for secure facilities
- Military recruiting or veteran outreach experience
- Experience in high-volume or project-based staffing environments
