Buyer – Industrial Machinery Manufacturing
Position Summary
Buyer leads cost-effective purchasing, supplier performance, and uninterrupted procurement of components, parts, equipment, and services to support manufacturing production. Focuses on optimizing cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity while building strong supplier relationships and driving value in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
This is contract position that has the potential to become a full-time resource based on performance and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage sourcing, request for quotations (RFQs), negotiations, and purchase order (POs) issuance for direct (production) and indirect materials.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to achieve cost savings, improve quality, ensure on-time delivery, and mitigate supply risks.
- Identify, evaluate, select, and onboard suppliers; Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers; Maintain supplier performance metrics and resolve issues.
- Monitor import/export regulations, Harmonic Tariff Scheme (HTS) classification, Country of Origin (COO) documentation and Incoterms.
- Monitor inventory levels, forecast material needs, expedite critical items, and prevent production disruptions.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and logistics teams to support demand requirements.
- Analyze market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records within ERP systems.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and ethical standards in procurement activities.
- Mentor junior buyers; lead category management or cross-functional projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or related field. Additional relevant experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- 7 years of procurement/buying experience, with 2 years in a senior role —manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred.
- Proven expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, contract management, and ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and project management skills; proficiency in data analysis.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, global sourcing, import/export regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for supplier and internal stakeholder interactions.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced settings with occasional travel.
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
