Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Cargo Operations Superintendent to lead and optimize our cargo handling and distribution activities. Duties
- Supervise daily cargo operations including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and warehouse distribution to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of orders
- Coordinate transportation planning and fleet management to optimize freight movement and reduce costs while maintaining service quality
- Implement process improvement initiatives utilizing Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies to streamline workflows and eliminate waste
- Manage warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and other transportation management systems (TMS) for effective inventory management and data accuracy
- Oversee procurement, purchasing, and vendor relationships with 3PL providers, NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers), and other logistics partners
- Lead a team of warehouse supervisors and logistics staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance through effective team management and managerial communication
- Monitor profit & loss statements, budgeting processes, and supply chain analytics to ensure operational profitability and identify areas for cost savings
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, shipping & receiving standards, and environmental policies across all cargo handling activities
Qualifications
- 5 years of cargo operations, stevedoring, terminal operations, or maritime logistics experience.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Business development or outside sales experience within maritime, transportation, logistics, or industrial services.
- Knowledge of cargo handling equipment and terminal operations.
- Understanding of vessel planning, stowage, and cargo documentation.
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as vessel schedules require.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Requirements
- Proven experience in warehouse supervision or distribution operations with a strong background in logistics management
- Extensive knowledge of supply chain management principles including inventory management, demand planning, production planning, and procurement
- Hands-on experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP platforms such as AS400 or similar systems, and Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and analysis
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), freight forwarding processes including NVOCC operations, 3PL partnerships, and dispatching procedures
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively with supervising experience in warehouse or logistics environments
- Strong understanding of profit & loss management, budgeting, process improvement strategies like Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
- Excellent communication skills suited for managerial roles in fast-paced distribution settings
- Ability to analyze supply chain data using supply chain analytics tools to inform decision-making
- Physical ability to perform warehouse tasks including forklift operation (certification preferred) and materials handling
