Teachers Assistant

• Instructional Support: Work with small groups or 1-on-1 with students to reinforce lessons, read stories, and help complete class assignments.
• Classroom Preparation: Assist the lead teacher by setting up instructional materials, preparing learning aids, and maintaining classroom organization.
• Student Supervision: Monitor students in non-instructional settings such as the cafeteria, hallways, and recess to ensure a safe, positive environment.
• Behavior Management: Reinforce classroom rules, redirect disruptive behaviors, and implement individualized student behavior plans.
• Clerical Duties: Take attendance, assist with grading, prepare materials for the next day, and manage classroom documentation.

Typical Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Virginia school districts generally require at least a High School Diploma or GED. Many roles prefer or require some college coursework (e.g., an associate’s degree) or passing a state-approved paraprofessional assessment.
• Skills: Strong communication, patience, adaptability, and basic computer/technology literacy.
• Physical Demands: Requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
