POSITION TITLE:
Maintenance Technician (Electrical)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical and sanitary systems throughout the District. Assist with the maintenance of grounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Maintenance and Repair
- Must report to work according to District policy, administration guidelines, employee handbook/supplement and assigned work schedule.
- Perform general building maintenance and construction related duties including but not limited to:
- Hang pictures, mirrors, whiteboards, projection screens and towel dispensers
- Replace broken glass
- Replace floor tile
- Replace ceiling tile
- Pressure washing
- Clean gutters and drains
- Repair sheetrock
- Paint
- Detect the need for repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment and submit work requests.
- Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs performed including material and labor used.
- Assist as needed with selecting material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates.
- Adjust schedule to meet workload demands.
- Attend training classes and seminars as directed.
- Assist with planning/scheduling projects as needed.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Area of Specialization
- Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, control and distribution apparatus, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
- Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems and equipment and test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components.
- Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics or blueprints.
- Measure, assemble and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader and conduit bender.
- Repair or recommend placement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers and dryers.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Five years of experience in the area of specialization
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Trade license as required by state and local authorities preferred
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge Skills:
- Knowledge of state and local building codes
- Knowledge of routine maintenance and repair procedures
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics or other work plans
- Ability to read and understand instructions for maintenance and safety procedures
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Analytical and problem solving abilities
OTHER INFORMATION:
Equipment Used: Electrical tools and equipment, computer, power tools, hand tools, dolly, wire cutter, tubing bender, threading machine, Pro Press, sewer cleaning machine, sewer camera, ladder, lift, small generator, volt meter, welder, concrete mixer, etc. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, standing, walking, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, climbing, operation of motor vehicle, specific visual requirements (depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors), specific hearing requirements. Outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, gases, solvents, grease, oils asbestos, silica, etc.; exposure to mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards; works around moving objects or vehicles, works around machinery with moving parts, works on ladders or scaffolding, unusual fatigue factors, protracted or irregular hours of work.
