Flex Driver
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To provide safe and efficient transportation for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- All the duties of a bus driver as listed in the Driver’s Handbook.
- Assigned to a group of drivers to assist and monitor daily operations.
- Assist drivers with required paperwork.
- Communicate to Routing Team daily route status issues.
- Assist the Routing Team daily with Routing Conflicts and resolution of problems or complaints.
- Monitor assigned schools on a daily basis.
- Monitor school arrival and departure times.
- Assist drivers and schools with route changes.
- Assist with training and re-training of drivers.
- Gather data on daily operations.
- Serve as sub driver on routes when needed.
- Check out road conditions.
- Liaison between Routing Team and their assigned group of drivers.
- Assist in dispatch.
- Assist in main office as receptionist.
- Assist route drivers with student discipline problems.
- Assist with Special Needs Transportation as needed.
- Assist with coordination of annual Safety Rally.
- Assist Routing Team with planning and scheduling of all transportation routing programs (mid-day, swim, extended day, shuttles, summer school).
- Mentor new employees.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- One year of successful bus driving experience with CDL required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas driver’s license/commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Safety
- Eligible for coverage under the district vehicle insurance program
- Certification of good health as required by the State of Texas signed by a licensed physician
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and understand instructions for transportation and safety procedures
- Ability to communicate verbally and through use of the written word directions or instructions regarding policies and procedures implemented by the district
OTHER INFORMATION:
Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (2 hours per day), standing (2 hours per day), operation of motor vehicle, specific visual requirements (driving, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors), specific hearing requirements (driving, oral and phone conversations). Outside and inside, excessive heat and cold, excessive humidity, excessive dampness or chilling, excessive noise (intermittent), constant noise; dust, fumes, smoke, or gases; unusual fatigue factors (long hours of driving, trips), protracted or irregular hours of work.
