Lakeshore Talent is seeking an Accountant for a contract opportunity with a respected organization in Denver, Colorado. This position is expected to last 6–8 weeks, with the potential for extension based on business needs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting, with payroll experience to provide backup support for payroll operations as needed. This role will primarily focus on general accounting functions, reconciliations, and month-end close activities while assisting the payroll team during peak periods and system implementation.

Pay Rate:

$34.00 - $36.00 per hour

Location: Denver, CO 80222

Schedule: Hybrid – 3 to 4 days onsite and 1 to 2 days remote each week

Duration: 6–8 weeks with potential for extension

Position Overview

The Accountant will support the Finance team by performing a variety of accounting functions, including account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close activities, and financial reporting. This role will also serve as a backup resource for payroll processing, ensuring continuity during periods of increased workload or team absences.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries to support month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform general ledger account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Complete bank reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of financial records
• Assist with monthly financial reporting and account analysis
• Support payroll accounting by reconciling payroll-related accounts and preparing payroll journal entries
• Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting policies and procedures
• Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing supporting documentation
• Collaborate with Finance, Payroll, and Human Resources to ensure accurate financial and payroll data
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
• Provide backup support for payroll processing, including multi-state payroll, payroll audits, and employee payroll inquiries as needed
• Utilize Workday to support accounting and payroll-related functions
• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, including general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
• Previous payroll processing experience with the ability to provide backup payroll support
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices
• Experience with general ledger reconciliations and bank reconciliations
• Hands-on experience with Workday or a comparable ERP/payroll system
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive financial and employee information
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting multi-state payroll
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate preferred
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus
• Experience supporting audits and SOX compliance
• Experience in a fast-paced corporate accounting environment
