Position Summary
Lake Lure Classical Academy seeks a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and mission-aligned K–12 Spanish Teacher to cultivate students' proficiency in the Spanish language while fostering an appreciation for Hispanic cultures, literature, history, and traditions. The ideal candidate will support the school's classical mission by emphasizing language acquisition through reading, speaking, listening, and writing, while promoting intellectual curiosity, cultural understanding, and virtuous character.
The K–12 Spanish Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an engaging Spanish curriculum that serves students across elementary, middle, and high school grades and prepares students for advanced language study and meaningful communication in Spanish.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum

Plan and deliver effective Spanish language instruction for students in grades K–12.

Develop age-appropriate lessons that build vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading comprehension, writing, and conversational fluency.

Integrate elements of Hispanic culture, history, geography, literature, and current events into instruction.

Foster active student participation through discussion, presentations, projects, and interactive learning activities.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback.

Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance.
Classical Education Responsibilities

Support the mission and vision of classical education through thoughtful instruction and high academic expectations.

Encourage students to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty through language and cultural study.

Incorporate classical teaching methods, including memorization, recitation, narration, discussion, and Socratic inquiry, as appropriate.

Help students make connections between Spanish language study and the broader liberal arts curriculum.
Student Development

Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture characterized by respect, responsibility, and intellectual engagement.

Serve as a positive role model for students in character and professionalism.

Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations.

Participate in parent conferences, school events, and extracurricular activities as assigned.
Professional Responsibilities

Qualifications
Required

Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, Foreign Language Education, or a related field.

Eligibility for or possession of a North Carolina teaching license.

Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.

Strong classroom management and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Preferred

Teaching experience in elementary, middle, and/or high school settings.

Experience with classical education or a willingness to learn and implement classical teaching methods.

Advanced degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.

Experience teaching upper-level Spanish courses, including honors or dual-enrollment coursework.
