K–7 School Counselor

Grade Levels: Kindergarten–7th Grade
Reports To: Principal / School Administration
Position Summary
Lake Lure Classical Academy seeks a dedicated and compassionate K–7 School Counselor to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in grades K–7. The counselor will play a key role in fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive school culture aligned with the school’s classical education mission.
Primary Responsibilities

Provide individual and small-group counseling to support student academic, social, and emotional growth

Implement developmentally appropriate guidance lessons for K–7 students

Support students in developing strong character, responsibility, and interpersonal skills

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success

Assist in identifying and supporting students with academic or behavioral needs

Coordinate referrals to outside counseling or support services when appropriate
-
Support crisis intervention and short-term counseling as needed

Promote a positive school climate consistent with classical education values

Participate in student support team (SST), 504, and related meetings
-
Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate documentation in compliance with school and legal guidelines
Additional Duties

Support transition planning between grade levels

Assist with attendance and behavior intervention systems

Provide consultation and training for staff on student support strategies

Contribute to school-wide programs focused on character education and wellness
Qualifications

Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field

Eligible for or holding North Carolina School Counselor licensure (or equivalent)

Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students preferred

Strong understanding of child and adolescent development

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
