CARPENTER
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
General construction knowledge
Five (5) years of experience, apprenticeship, training, and or vocational training in carpentry field
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in this trade
Ability to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
Ability to perform carpentry work and care for tools, materials, and equipment safely
Ability to make rough sketches, read blueprints, and work from specifications
Ability to estimate materials and labor costs for minor carpentry jobs
Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action
Ability to keep simple records and make reports
Ability to instruct and lead helpers
Ability to read and write and make accurate arithmetic computations (read a ruler, use a square, etc.)
Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
Grasp, lift, maneuver, carry, push, pull, move, and set down (50-80 lbs.) objects on a daily basis safely
Pass a physical examination

Salary Schedule: Mechanic Specialist
Specific Job Duties
(1) Performs assigned routine carpentry preventive maintenance
(2) Handles carpentry repairs according to work orders issued by designated supervisor
(3) Studies plans for material required and dimensions of structures to be fabricated
(4) Install flooring, baseboards, ceiling tiles, as needed in buildings
(5) Repair plaster work
(6) Construct and install handicap ramps with guard rails and pipe hand rails as per A.D.A. specifications and to meet local fire codes
(7) Construct office areas, partition walls, work stations, and bathroom stalls as required
(8) Repair roof leaks and seal tab roofing
(9) Install, repair, or replace all locks (door, cabinet, etc.)
(10) Repair windows and window panes
(11) Construct, install, and hang bulletin boards, white magnetic boards, and dry eraser boards
(12) Install, repair, and replace moldings, doors, and frames as required
(13) Construct computer labs and computer tables
(14) Construct and repair bookcases, cabinets, desk, shelving, and fencing when needed
(15) Keep up to date on new and innovative methods, supplies, equipment, and tools through seminars and workshops
(16) Install, float, and finish sheet rock
(17) Work cooperatively and effectively with other departments: Plumbing, HVAC (installation of A/C units with the assistance of HVAC dept.), Cafeteria, Electrical, and Mechanic/Welding
(18) Masonry work (build forms, pour cement, repair brick and block walls)
(19) Repair, replace, and construct school benches and auditorium seats
(20) Install television/VCR brackets, window blinds, school signs, information signs, and product dispensers
(21) Repair flag poles
(22) Repair and maintain portable buildings
(23) Makes rough estimates on materials needed for minor installations and repairs
(24) Advises on the selection, ordering, and storage of carpentry supplies, materials, and equipment
(25) Complete work orders properly and return to supervisor
(26) Assumes responsibility of directing and/or guiding helper to perform his job correctly and safely for all parties
(27) Assumes responsibility of being driver of assigned service vehicle with routine required maintenance performed and to keep records of such maintenance
(28) Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or by Superintendent

(8) Participates in professional activities on a local, state, and national level in assigned areas (include for appropriate personnel)

(1) Understands and interprets written and verbal instructions from immediate supervisor and gives clear written and oral instructions to others as required
(2) Accurately compiles data, summarizes information and provides written reports when required
(3) Answers the telephone and receives visitors in a courteous and efficient manner
(4) Follows the chain of command for various administrative procedures
Attendance and Punctuality
(1) Reports to work at the assigned time
(2) Attends work consistently
(3) Contacts Supervisor when absent
(4) Scans in or out using the employee scan system as appropriate

(1) Completes task in a safe manner as prescribed by the Safety Department or by the employee's profession/craft
(2) Maintains a neat and orderly work environment
(3) Dresses appropriately for the job assigned and in compliance with state law and board policy GAMB Employee Dress Code
(4) Displays employee ID tag at all times while on duty
(5) Reports any unsafe conditions or any incidents of injury or damage immediately to the appropriate official
(6) Complies with policies GAMA Employee Tobacco Use and GAMD Drug-Free Workplace when on duty
*Annual Salary is based on years of experience (0-40), with increases for advanced degrees.
