SUMMARY: The Board-Up & Hazardous Materials Technician is responsible for securing properties and responding to hazardous materials incidents. This role includes installing protective barriers to prevent damage or unauthorized access, as well as safely handling, containing, and remediating hazardous substances. The technician ensures all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations while maintaining clear communication with team members, clients, and relevant agencies.
This position supports 24/7 operations and therefore requires a high level of flexibility, including on-call availability and the ability to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Secure residential and commercial properties by installing board-ups on windows, doors, and other entry points; install fencing when necessary.
- Respond promptly to hazardous materials incidents, including chemical, biological, or other potentially dangerous substances.
- Identify, assess, contain, and remediate hazardous spills and environmental hazards.
- Perform site decontamination and support environmental cleanup efforts.
- Use, maintain, and inspect personal protective equipment (PPE), including specialized safety gear.
- Collect, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Document all work performed, including job progress, incident reports, and compliance records.
- Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and external partners regarding scope of work and safety procedures.
- Participate in emergency response drills, ongoing training, and team initiatives.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and supplies in proper working condition.
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field is a plus
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) preferred
- Certifications such as HAZWOPER (40-hour) and DOT Hazardous Materials are a plus but not required
- Ability to work in physically demanding and potentially hazardous environments
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingual skills are a plus but not required
