The Opportunity:
Our Client is actively searching for a dynamic and experienced professional to assume the pivotal role of Controller, responsible for leading the firm’s accounting operations and strategic financial management. This senior management-level position will oversee a broad range of high-level accounting functions, ensure the delivery of high-quality service to firm personnel, and serve as a key resource to firm leadership on financial and operational matters. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the firm’s Administrative Management Team, the Controller will manage all day-to-day Accounting Department functions while partnering closely with firm leadership, HR, and the firm’s outside accounting advisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all firm accounting operations, including daily, weekly, and monthly functions, general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closings and reporting.
- Manage all billing, e-billing, collections, accounts receivable, payroll support, budgeting, and variance analysis, while partnering with HR on compensation, bonus, and retirement plan administration.
- Maintain compliance and accuracy across all bank, IOLTA, and client fund accounts, and work closely with the firm’s outside accounting firm on financial statements, tax filings, and partner Schedule K-1s.
- Supervise and develop Accounting Department staff, document and improve departmental procedures, and provide regular financial reporting and recommendations to firm leadership and the management committee.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 10 years of general accounting experience (within a law firm environment preferred).
- Strong knowledge of law firm accounting operations, including billing, e-billing, payment processing, general ledger, reconciliations, client funds, IOLTA accounts, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Proficiency with accounting systems in a legal environment, including knowledge of SurePoint/LMS preferred, and advanced Excel skills required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage staff, improve processes, prioritize competing deadlines, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Salary : $160,000 - $185,000
