Kforce has a client in Washington, DC that is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager to support a multi-department, nonprofit accounting environment. Overview: This role will be heavily involved in month-end close, reconciliations, revenue recognition, grant accounting, and ERP system initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, experience working with federal grants, and the ability to partner effectively across departments while contributing to system improvements and process documentation. This position supports over 20 departments and plays a key role in financial reporting, board reporting, and upcoming system implementation efforts. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
Perform and review heavy balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
Review contracts and ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards
Support accounting for federal grants and indirect costs, including compliance, tracking, and reporting
Partner with department leaders to support financial reporting and accounting needs across 20+ departments
Prepare and contribute to board-level financial reporting
Serve as a key accounting resource for ERP system assessment and implementation, including supporting process design, testing, and rollout activities
Utilize and maintain accounting operations within Great Plains, with an emphasis on minimizing disruption ahead of future system implementation
Document and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and SOPs
Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, operations, and external partners to support audits and financial initiatives
Assist with or lead special projects as needed in a dynamic, growing environment
Requirements
Strong experience with month-end close and reconciliations
Hands-on experience with Great Plains (preferred; Limited training availability)
Exposure to ERP system implementations, with preference for candidates who have played a lead or key support role in a full system rollout
Experience with federal grants and indirect cost accounting (nonprofits, universities, research institutions, or similar environments)
Strong understanding of revenue recognition, including contract review and proper revenue classification
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner across departments
Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable operating in a hands-on accounting role
Preferred/Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
CPA strongly preferred; Will consider exceptional candidates without a CPA
External or public accounting experience
Experience supporting multiple business units or LLC structures
Prior experience documenting accounting policies, procedures, and SOPs
Experience with Sage Intacct and/or NetSuite
Proven experience supporting audits and working directly with external auditors
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
