Kanect Co. is committed to sustainable materials recovery and efficient recycling operations. We're looking for a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Ashtabula, OH and help keep our yard running smoothly.
About the Role
We're hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to run material handlers, loaders, and other heavy equipment in our recycling facility. Candidates with experience on machines equipped with CAT (Caterpillar) controls are strongly preferred, but we welcome operators with comparable equipment experience to apply.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment (material handlers, wheel loaders, excavators, and similar) to sort, move, and load recyclable materials
- Perform daily pre-operation inspections and basic maintenance checks on equipment
- Load and unload trucks and containers efficiently and safely
- Sort and stage materials according to yard procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all company safety protocols and OSHA guidelines
- Communicate effectively with yard supervisors and team members
- Report equipment issues or malfunctions promptly
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in a scrap yard, recycling facility, or similar industrial environment
- Experience with CAT (Caterpillar) controls strongly preferred
- Valid driver's license in good standing
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Strong attention to safety procedures and detail
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
