Our client is hiring a Director of Facilities Engineering in Arlington, VA. The ideal candidate will have experience leading and managing a team in a healthcare setting. This role reports to an AVP who needs help handing day-to-day issues and team members.
The Director of Facilities Engineering is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, organization, staffing, and management of the Facilities Engineering Department. This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of comprehensive programs supporting the maintenance, repair, evaluation, and reliability of clinical facilities, infrastructure, and biomedical equipment.
The Director serves as a senior advisor to clinical leadership on all matters related to engineering services, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations that support patient care, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Facilities Engineering Department.
- Plan, direct, and oversee maintenance, repair, and capital improvement programs for clinical facilities and systems.
- Ensure the effective operation and evaluation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, emergency power, and biomedical systems.
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, financial performance, and cost-control initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, codes, and accreditation standards.
- Advise hospital leadership on engineering services, infrastructure planning, and long-term facilities strategy.
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering staff to ensure high performance and accountability.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, not required.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of management experience required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a healthcare environment required.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Mechanical engineering and HVAC systems
- Electrical systems and emergency/essential power
- Biomedical or healthcare facilities engineering
- Financial management and budgetary processes
Salary : $160,000 - $180,000
