We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in Pleasanton, CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
- Lead and support structural design efforts for high-voltage electrical substations (typically 12kV500kV).
- Perform structural steel design, including bus support structures, equipment stands, platforms, and connection details.
- Develop concrete foundation designs for transformers, breakers, control buildings, steel structures, and other substation components.
- Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies.
- Prepare and review detailed design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical, civil, and project management teams to ensure design compliance, constructability, and project timelines.
- Support site evaluations, structural assessments, and modification recommendations for existing substations.
- Maintain adherence to applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC, IEEE).
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship when applicable.
What were looking for:
- Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Masters preferred but not required).
- 5 years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on substation design.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Structural steel design
- Concrete/foundation design
- Analysis software (e.g., PLS-CADD/POLE, STAAD, SAP2000, RISA, or similar)
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC).
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licenseCalifornia preferred (or ability to obtain via comity).
- Experience interacting with utility clients or EPC partners.
- Familiarity with seismic design requirements in California.
- Experience developing construction packages and IFC drawings.
- Prior involvement in renewable energy or grid modernization projects.
Pay Range $120,000-150,000/year
