We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in Pleasanton, CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations

• Lead and support structural design efforts for high-voltage electrical substations (typically 12kV–500kV).
• Perform structural steel design, including bus support structures, equipment stands, platforms, and connection details.
• Develop concrete foundation designs for transformers, breakers, control buildings, steel structures, and other substation components.
• Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies.
• Prepare and review detailed design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, and project management teams to ensure design compliance, constructability, and project timelines.
• Support site evaluations, structural assessments, and modification recommendations for existing substations.
• Maintain adherence to applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC, IEEE).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship when applicable.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred but not required).
• 5 years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on substation design.
• Demonstrated experience with:
• Structural steel design
• Concrete/foundation design
• Analysis software (e.g., PLS-CADD/POLE, STAAD, SAP2000, RISA, or similar)
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC).
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license—California preferred (or ability to obtain via comity).
• Experience interacting with utility clients or EPC partners.
• Familiarity with seismic design requirements in California.
• Experience developing construction packages and IFC drawings.
• Prior involvement in renewable energy or grid modernization projects.
  

Pay Range $120,000-150,000/year
