The Accounting and Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing. This role combines financial recordkeeping, payroll administration, and compliance, requiring strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Accounting Duties:
- Maintain the general ledger and accurately record daily financial transactions
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
- Prepare financial reports and support budgeting activities
- Assist with audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
Payroll Duties:
- Process payroll (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) accurately and on schedule
- Maintain payroll records, including wages, deductions, and tax information
- Calculate employee compensation, including overtime, bonuses, and commissions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and related reports
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting and/or payroll
- Experience with payroll and accounting systems (e.g., Paycom, QuickBooks)
- Working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
