Southern Careers Institute (SCI) is seeking a knowledgeable Payroll Specialist to process and manage the company’s payroll. This position offers a competitive base salary plus incentive compensation.
Responsibilities Include
SCI has been changing lives for over 60 years, now and we’re just getting started. We offer certification-based training with programs in Medical, Business, Cosmetology, Skilled-Trades and Technology with campuses spanning across central and south Texas as well as online. Our students can graduate most of our programs in under one year and with real-world experience under their belt.
Responsibilities Include
- Compile payroll data such as hours worked, sales or piecework, taxes, and insurance to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records;
- Prepare computer input forms, enter data into computer files, or compute wages and deductions and post to payroll records;
- Review wages computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll;
- Record changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records;
- Prepare and issue paychecks;
- Review and approve payroll deductions;
- Interpret company policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures;
- Coordinate employee benefits enrollment and deductions with HR benefits coordinator;
- Ensure ongoing coordination with HR to properly capture correct pay for New Hires and Terminations.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field or 2-3 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Strong knowledge Payroll, HR, Benefits management systems – Ceridian / Dayforce preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; specifically Excel and it’s advanced functions;
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills;
- Strong verbal communication, written communication, listening, record keeping and information management.
