What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registrar/Truancy Officer Long-Term Substitute position at Johnston Public Schools?
General Description of Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent/Designee, the purpose of the position is to perform district-based duties associated with the enrollment, attendance, and residency of students. Employees in this position must function at an experienced secretarial level with superior technology and communication skills. The employee will be responsible for residency, enrollment and attendance, and all matters relating to these issues.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for contacting parents when students are not in school;
Check attendance of all students in the Johnston Public School system;
Responsible for registering new students and entering their biographical information into the student information system;
Responsible for entering biographical/demographical changes to student records;
Attend juvenile court;
Communicate with principals and guidance counselors;
Responsible for maintaining confidentiality;
Responsible for being certified in proper restraint procedures;
Coordinate a non-standard eight hour/day work week;
Responsible for knowing the procedures for filing petitions with Family Court;
Responsible for issuing summonses to parents when necessary;
Communicate with Judges, DCYF, Social Workers, Psychologists, Guidance Counselors, Principals, Police Department Officials, and Central Office Administrators;
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Superintendent/Designee.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED with additional educational/experience credentials, including an Associates degree or certification in Secretarial Sciences from a recognized post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

PHYSICAL ABILITY: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
