Position Summary:
Johnston Public Schools is seeking reliable, flexible, and student-centered Building Substitute Teachers to join our team. Building Substitutes will report to the same assigned school each day and provide classroom coverage as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with students, want consistent placement, and are interested in gaining valuable school-based experience.
Responsibilities:
Provide instructional coverage for absent teachers across grade levels and subject areas.
Implement lesson plans left by classroom teachers and maintain a productive learning environment.
Support school-wide routines, procedures, and student expectations.
Assist with duties such as arrival/dismissal, lunch, or hallway supervision, as assigned.
Collaborate with school staff to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Rhode Island teaching certificate required.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Ability to adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and student needs.
Dependability and commitment to a full-time schedule.
Compensation & Benefits:
Daily rate: $150.00 per day (to be determined by district).
Position does not include health, dental, retirement, or paid leave benefits.
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, following the Johnston Public Schools calendar.
