LIDS (Low Incidence Disability Teacher) Job Description
Position Summary
Provide specialized instruction and support to students with low-incidence disabilities to help them develop academic, functional, social, and life skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student
- Deliver modified, individualized instruction aligned to student ability levels
- Teach functional life skills (communication, self-care, social skills, daily living)
- Adapt curriculum and materials to meet diverse needs
Student Support & Development
- Provide intensive, direct instruction for students requiring substantial support
- Monitor progress through assessments and adjust instruction
- Support students’ behavioral, emotional, and social development
Collaboration
- Work with:
- General education teachers
- Paraprofessionals
- Therapists (speech, OT, PT)
- Parents/guardians
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and planning
Classroom Management
- Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive environment
- Implement behavior intervention plans
- Use assistive technology and specialized strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Special Education or related field)
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Special Education
