What are the responsibilities and job description for the Low Vision Store Associate position at East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind?
The purpose of the East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind shall be the rehabilitation, education, training and employment of people who are blind and visually impaired, and the furtherance of their interests and welfare through programs designed to provide rehabilitation, training and employment opportunities, being wholly charitable and benevolent.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Low Vision Store Associate provides support in two key areas: client services and store operations. This position is responsible for greeting and assisting clients, handling applications, and documentation, maintaining accurate records in the CRM, and supporting general office and event needs. In addition, the associate provides customer service in the Low Vision Store by demonstrating products, assisting with purchases, completing sales transactions, and maintaining an organized retail environment. The Low Vision Store Associate ensures seamless communication, accurate recordkeeping, and excellent customer service to further the organization’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Services & Administrative Support
- Greet and assist clients and visitors with professionalism and warmth.
- Answer and direct phone calls, providing accurate information about programs and services.
- Assist clients with completing service applications in person or over the phone.
- Collect, process, and maintain HIPAA-compliant documentation with strict confidentiality.
- Request, track, and follow up on medical records and other required paperwork.
- Assess client and visitor needs promptly and connect them with appropriate staff or resources.
- Enter and update client data in the CRM system.
- Support daily office operations, including administrative tasks, event setup, coordination, and cleanup.
- Participate in Vision Awareness Trainings as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Low Vision Store Support
- Provide customer service by demonstrating and explaining products.
- Assist clients in selecting items that meet their individual needs.
- Complete sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Restock shelves, maintain displays, and ensure product availability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- 2 years of customer service, administrative support, or receptionist experience required.
- Experience in retail or point of sale environments, including customer transactions and product stocking.
- Bi-lingual preferred
SKILLS

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Windows OS, and CRM/POS’S systems

- Willing to learn and demonstrate assistive technology and low vision products.
- Basic math skills for sales transactions and inventory counts
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sitting, Standing, and Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Must be comfortable assisting at events, which may include moving tables, setting up materials, and cleaning up after activities.
- Prolonged sitting at a computer desk requiring prolonged usage of a computer.
