Job Overview
The Director of Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership for the engineering organization, overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering processes that support high-quality interconnect solutions. This role ensures that product design, manufacturing readiness, and technical execution align with business objectives, operational capabilities, and customer requirements.
In this role, you will partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Commercial teams to support new product introduction, improve manufacturing processes, and drive cost, quality, and delivery performance across both new and legacy products.

What You'll Do
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the engineering organization, including NPI, tooling, manufacturing engineering, and documentation control functions
- Establish and sustain effective engineering processes, procedures, and standards
- Provide technical leadership and direction to engineering teams to meet business objectives and key performance indicators
- Develop, mentor, and manage engineering talent, including training and knowledge transfer related to equipment, processes, and technologies
- Drive manufacturing-focused engineering practices that support quality, efficiency, scalability, and cost reduction
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies, equipment, materials, and processes that deliver measurable return on investment
- Partner with Production and Operations to analyze workflows, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and support kaizen activities
- Provide technical expertise to resolve manufacturing, quality, and nonconformance issues in collaboration with Quality teams
- Support new product introduction from concept and feasibility through validation and production release
- Provide technical guidance on both new and existing assemblies, including customer-specific solutions
- Ensure designs incorporate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Support customer engagements as needed to address technical requirements and solution development
- Provide technical input across the organization to support operational, quality, and commercial objectives
- Assist in the development and improvement of company-wide performance metrics
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering priorities with business needs
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or related field), or equivalent combination of education and industry experience
- 7 years of progressive engineering experience within an industrial B2B manufacturing environment
- 3 years of engineering leadership or people management experience
- Demonstrated experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI), including feasibility assessment, validation, and production ramp‑up
- Strong manufacturing‑focused engineering background with the ability to effectively align product design, manufacturing processes, and production requirements
- Demonstrated success leading and developing engineering teams in fast‑paced, high‑change manufacturing environments
- In‑depth knowledge and practical application of manufacturing best practices, including:
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
- Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
- Hands‑on leadership style with proven effectiveness partnering closely with manufacturing and operations teams on the production floor
- Experience applying structured problem‑solving methodologies to address manufacturing, quality, and delivery challenges
- Strong cross‑functional communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams, and to represent engineering in customer‑facing discussions when needed
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience in interconnect solutions, cable assemblies, harnessing, or related electromechanical manufacturing
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, Gemba walks, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting customer ‑ specific or configurable engineered products
- Prior experience balancing custom engineering requirements with scalable, repeatable solutions
