POSITION SUMMARY- Will assist lead teacher in overall operation of the classroom
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Implement program plans according to prescribed methods and document students' progress accurately.
- Attend in-service training as mandated and apply acquired knowledge in the day-to-day performance of the role.
- Report any relevant changes noted in the student’s performance and any medical concerns to the Lead Teacher.
- Be aware of areas in which individuals require assistance and give this assistance without direct supervision.
- Provide basic first aid.
- Follow IWC Emergency Plan as needed.
- Follow Universal Precautions and OSHA Guidelines related to exposure of blood and bodily fluids.
- Monitor individuals carefully and bring to the attention of the Lead Teacher any pertinent observations or concerns about individual health care needs.
- Promptly follow up on Lead Teacher instructions/recommendations.
- Converse with students, using a gentle tone of voice, tolerance and patience, and maintain zoning.
- Follow all IWC Behavior policy guidelines.
- Have knowledge of individual’s rights and ensure that rights are respected.
- Respect privacy and confidentiality of each student and family.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to problem identification and solutions.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of, and follow, NC Division of Early Education rules and regulations/NC Sanitation rules and regulations.
- Work closely with co-workers and communicate information accurately.
- Complete assigned tasks and, when needed, be willing to complete special tasks.
- Provide daily direct care of students: changing diapers, cleaning, feeding or assist with feeding, and specific child plans.
- Flexible with shifts and classroom assignments, due to enrolled children’s needs.
- Offer children assistance in co-regulation and use the Pyramid Model.
- Help foster independence and self-help skills.
- Review Kambyu, NC Division of Early Education, and NC Sanitation information monthly for updates.
- Provide interactive engagement in the classroom. Play alongside the children and facilitate learning, all while supervising the children.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS-Education/training
FLOATER- Graduation from High School or successful completion of GED program. Have EDU 119 completed within 6 months of hire date.
TEACHER ASSISTANT- Graduation from High School or successful completion of GED program. Register for EDU 119 within 2 months of hire date. Have EDU 119 completed within 6 months of hire date. Preferred 1 year daycare experience.
NECCESARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Maintain current First Aid and Infant/Child/Adult CPR certification. Be willing to obtain other certifications as needed.
SPECIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to record basic data and document observations. Ability to communicate with other staff and members of the community.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS
MENTAL EFFORT: Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Possess the ability to function independently.
VISUAL EFFORT: Must be able to hand write and read all types of print, including small print, and in different lighting conditions. Must maintain visual supervision of children at all times.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting up to 40 pounds independently.
SAFETY: Behavior problems such as aggression of clients and/or lifting could cause bodily injury.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employees work in indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally in less than desirable weather conditions. Provide assistance with toileting, diapering, and feeding.
