Mainframe COBOL Developer
Job Summary:
The Mainframe COBOL Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mainframe-based applications that support enterprise business operations. This role focuses on building and enhancing solutions within complex integration environments, with an emphasis on claims processing systems and large-scale transaction platforms. The developer works both independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality, reliable code and ensure system performance and stability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based mainframe applications
- Analyze business and technical requirements to deliver effective system solutions
- Support integration and data exchange processes across enterprise platforms
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely manner
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with system requirements
- Participate in system enhancements, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
- Maintain proper documentation for development, testing, and deployment activities
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in mainframe application development
- Strong expertise in COBOL programming in a mainframe environment
- Experience working with large-scale transaction processing systems
- Proven ability to work independently and within team environments
Required Technical Skills:
- COBOL development on mainframe systems
- DB2 database management
- Messaging and integration tools (e.g., MQ)
- Job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M or similar)
- Software configuration and change management tools (e.g., SCLM)
- SQL and data querying
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with healthcare or claims processing systems
- Familiarity with ANSI X12 transactions (837, 835, 276, 277)
- Experience with enterprise integration platforms and on-premise data environments
- Exposure to modernization initiatives or large-scale system transformations
