Mainframe COBOL Developer

Job Summary:
The Mainframe COBOL Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mainframe-based applications that support enterprise business operations. This role focuses on building and enhancing solutions within complex integration environments, with an emphasis on claims processing systems and large-scale transaction platforms. The developer works both independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality, reliable code and ensure system performance and stability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based mainframe applications
• Analyze business and technical requirements to deliver effective system solutions
• Support integration and data exchange processes across enterprise platforms
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely manner
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with system requirements
• Participate in system enhancements, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
• Maintain proper documentation for development, testing, and deployment activities

Required Experience & Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in mainframe application development
• Strong expertise in COBOL programming in a mainframe environment
• Experience working with large-scale transaction processing systems
• Proven ability to work independently and within team environments

Required Technical Skills:

• COBOL development on mainframe systems
• DB2 database management
• Messaging and integration tools (e.g., MQ)
• Job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M or similar)
• Software configuration and change management tools (e.g., SCLM)
• SQL and data querying

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with healthcare or claims processing systems
• Familiarity with ANSI X12 transactions (837, 835, 276, 277)
• Experience with enterprise integration platforms and on-premise data environments
• Exposure to modernization initiatives or large-scale system transformations
