What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Engineer – Lyophilization Systems position at Intellectt Inc?
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Equipment Engineer with strong expertise in lyophilization (freeze drying) systems to support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities within a life sciences manufacturing environment.
This is a highly execution-focused, field-based role, ideal for engineers with a field service or maintenance background. The position emphasizes direct equipment interaction rather than validation-heavy documentation work.
You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, operational readiness, and long-term performance of freeze dryers and associated process systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of freeze dryers and related equipment
- Execute corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities with a focus on lyophilization systems
- Conduct temperature mapping studies for freeze dryers and associated systems
- Perform I/O checks, including simulation of physical and electrical signals to verify system functionality
- Execute instrumentation loop calibrations (temperature, pressure, and vacuum systems)
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and PLC/control system issues directly on equipment
- Carry out on-site repair, adjustment, and fault isolation with minimal supervision
- Support equipment start-up, functional testing, and performance verification
- Prepare customer sites for installation, including equipment assembly and readiness activities
Required Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience with lyophilization (freeze dryer) systems in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences environments
- Strong background in electro-mechanical maintenance and field service engineering
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform:
- Temperature mapping
- I/O checks (signal simulation)
- Instrumentation loop calibration (temperature, pressure, vacuum)
- Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and SAT (execution-focused, not documentation-heavy)
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and basic controls troubleshooting
- Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis capabilities
- Ability to work independently in a field-based, hands-on environment
- Comfortable performing physical work on manufacturing equipment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface directly with customers and cross-functional teams
