JOB DESCRIPTION
The Veterinary Phlebotomist / Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting blood samples from dogs and processing those samples in a laboratory environment. This role supports testing activities by performing blood draws, preparing specimens, operating laboratory equipment, conducting routine quality checks, and maintaining accurate documentation. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling dogs, has strong venipuncture skills, and can follow detailed procedures in a regulated setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood samples from dogs using proper venipuncture techniques.
- Safely handle, label, transport, and process blood specimens.
- Operate laboratory equipment and perform testing according to established procedures.
- Conduct routine quality control checks and maintain laboratory records.
- Document sample information, test results, and equipment activities accurately.
- Support product testing, validation studies, and laboratory investigations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
- Follow all safety procedures related to biological samples and sharps.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience drawing blood from dogs.
- Ability to follow written procedures and maintain detailed records.
- Comfortable working with blood samples and laboratory equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- RVT, LVT, CVT, or Veterinary Assistant certification.
- Experience in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, diagnostic laboratory, or research setting.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and quality documentation.
- Experience supporting testing, validation, or research activities.
Pay Rate: $80,000-85,000 Yearly Salary
