Job Description:
As a Senior Engineer of Electric Power Systems, you will contribute, and lead research & development of advanced electrical power & energy systems and components used primarily in utility applications. You will engage with and support several businesses as well as several United States government customers and partners. You will also be encouraged to explore new or revolutionary ideas which have not found a home in a business yet. You will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct advanced research in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
- Develop technologies for renewable integration (wind, solar), HVDC, WAMS, microgrids, automation, and protection.
- Collaborate with internal teams on electrical machines, power electronics, propulsion, and energy storage.
- Design and implement grid-control algorithms; assess DER impact on grid operations.
- Create simulation models (direct sequence, EMT) and perform system analysis (real-time modeling, transient stability, economic dispatch, grid codes).
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams; act as Principal Investigator on proposals for businesses, government agencies, universities, and national labs.
- Develop solutions for grid resiliency against cyber-physical disruptions.
- Identify new technology, product, and service opportunities, monitor industry trends.
- Communicate results through reports and presentations; participate in IP assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in electric power systems or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electric power systems.
- Expertise in at least three areas:
- High penetration renewable systems
- Electrical network modeling and simulations
- Transmission/distribution planning and optimization
- Impact of intelligent devices (HVDC, FACTS, storage, EVs, grid-forming inverters)
- Control and optimization technologies
- Machine learning applications for power systems
- Experience with simulation tools: PSCAD, PSS-E, PSLF, OpenDSS, GridLAB-D, etc.
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop environments (RTDS, Opal-RT).
- Patents/publications in power system modeling, simulation, optimization, control, AI.
- Leadership experience and ability to drive projects end-to-end.
Compensation:
$70/hr to $95/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
Salary : $145,000 - $200,000
