Senior CAD Designer

Overview

We’re hiring a Senior CAD Configurator / Lead Designer to own and maintain the master SolidWorks CAD environment for next-generation quantum computing hardware. This person will be the go-to SolidWorks superuser responsible for data integrity, top-level assembly health, and ensuring that complex mechanical electrical routed systems all fit and connect correctly.

This is a highly cross-functional role supporting a large, evolving master model with contributions from multiple engineers/designers.

What You’ll Do

• Own master CAD model integrity for a complex quantum hardware system (large top-level assemblies, configurations, and interconnect-heavy builds).
• Fix and prevent broken references, missing mates, suppressed features, incorrect configurations, and assembly performance issues.
• Establish guardrails so new contributions don’t degrade the master model.
• Build and maintain a master skeleton / layout structure and implement ICDs (Interface Control Documents):
• Serve as the escalation point for CAD problems and complex rebuild issues.
• Drive a CAD audit of an existing implementation
• Evaluate structure, dependencies, modeling practices, and performance bottlenecks.
• Support full lifecycle design of supporting hardware that enables the quantum computer system:
• Equipment racks, mounts, brackets, integration hardware, cable management, and mechanical packaging.

Required Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in mechanical design / CAD configuration supporting complex assemblies.
• Deep expertise in SolidWorks (advanced assemblies, configurations, references, large design review practices).
• Proven experience owning/maintaining a master CAD model with multiple contributors (data integrity mindset).
• Experience working with large assemblies (thousands of parts) and complex integration constraints.
• Strong systems thinking — understands mechanical packaging, routing, interfaces, and integration, not just individual parts.
