What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at Insight Global?
Insight Global is looking for an entry level GIS Technician to sit in Lutz, FL (north Tampa area) with any interest in learning the power distribution & utilities engineering industry. This is an entry level role, so new graduates welcome to apply! This a 4 month contract-to-hire, meaning you will be converted full time (which includes PTO, Holiday Pay, etc.) after 4 months!
The GIS Technician will support the maintenance and operation of utilities clients' mapping and GIS applications by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be inputted by others. Will be taught to read and interpret design drawings of utility poles. They will generate and maintain the GIS- generated operations maps and accumulate and assemble all information needed. This position may require contact with client engineers and management. This position is subject to supervision of progress, quality, and production.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work in-office, 40 hours a week, typical daytime hours (such as M-F 8am-5pm with some possible flexibility)
- Completed Bachelor Degree (Geography, Photometry, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Mapping, or any related field of study to GIS preferred) - OR - Associates Degree plus 2 years of professional GIS experience
- Any professional, internship, or educational coursework experience related to GIS
- Experience with any of the following GIS related software/tools is a plus: ArgGIS, ArcMap, 3GIS, etc.
- Being open to learning about the power distribution & utilities design/engineering industry and working in an office setting – training provided!
- Strong computer literacy: will be taught to read and interpret design drawings of utility poles to generate and maintain GIS-generated operations map
Salary : $18 - $23
