Job Title: Design Engineer (CATIA)
Pay Rate: $50 to $56.51/HR
Duration: 3 months
Location: Palmdale, CA(Onsite)
We are looking for a Design Engineer (CATIA) to support an aerospace manufacturing tooling design team in Palmdale, CA. This role focuses on designing tooling, fixtures, gauges, and production support equipment for major aerospace programs, including the F-35 and Global Hawk. The ideal candidate will have strong CATIA experience, GD&T expertise, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering standards.
This position works closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to deliver tooling solutions that support production efficiency, quality, and cost objectives.
- Design tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, dies, and machine attachments for aerospace manufacturing operations.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using CATIA.
- Apply GD&T principles and ANSI/ISO drafting standards to engineering documentation.
- Support tolerance stack-up analysis, package studies, and manufacturability evaluations.
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Maintain CAD models and engineering documentation within SmartTeam or related databases.
- Support prototype tooling and testing fixture development when required.
- Coordinate with suppliers and customers to ensure tooling functionality and feasibility.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of CATIA design experience.
- Strong proficiency in 3D modeling and engineering detailing.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
- Experience with castings, stampings, forgings, machined components, or molded plastics.
- Familiarity with ANSI and ISO drafting standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Aerospace manufacturing or tooling experience.
- Experience supporting F-35, Global Hawk, or similar aerospace programs.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and package studies.
- Experience participating in customer or supplier engineering meetings.
- Familiarity with SmartTeam database systems.
